Claro (registered as América Móvil Perú SAC) is the Peruvian subsidiary of Latin American telecommunications company Claro. It is the second largest company among the four cell phone companies in the country and is part of the América Móvil Group. On October 1, 2010, Claro absorbed Telmex and distributed the services offered by that company (digital television, telephone and internet) under the "Claro" brand. The operator uses GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) technology, as well as its evolution to GPRS (General Packet Radio Service Transmission) and EDGE (higher data rates for GSM Evolution). Claro Peru offers services with A GSM network in the 1900 MHz band, it also has EDGE and UMTS networks in the 1,900 band with short-term commercial launch plans.
